Tree preservation. Verified.

Build boldly.
Leave a living legacy.

A tree-preservation certification in development for builders who want proof, not just a promise. Follow the evidence from the first site plan to healthy trees years after construction.

For developers, builders & the communities they shape.

CanopyWise hero

The CanopyWise principle

Not saved until
they’re established.

Our founding commitments

Independent eyesAuditors separate from project consultants.

Evidence at every gateSite visits. Dated photos. A traceable record.

Survival over intentionOnly Established trees count as saved.

01 / The recognition pathway

One badge.
No shortcuts.

Six construction phases. Three recognition levels. Each step is earned against documented evidence—not awarded for a good-looking plan.

A recognized reference. An independent program.

The proposed checklists will reference the third edition of the tree-protection Best Management Practices. CanopyWise is not endorsed or administered by ISA.

01

Planning + design

CanopyWise Planned

Inventory trees before the layout is fixed. Identify preservation candidates and route grading, utilities and buildings around their protection zones.

02

Preconstruction + construction

CanopyWise Protected

Inspect barriers before equipment arrives. Brief contractors, log site visits and breaches, and require corrective action throughout the build.

03

Landscaping + postconstruction

CanopyWise Established

Protect roots during finishing work. Reassess tree condition at 2 and 5 years. Only trees reaching this level enter the saved-tree count.

02 / The evidence trail

A tree’s history.
Not a marketing story.

The planned public registry connects each certified tree to a QR record: its baseline assessment, phase evidence and latest health check. Residents should be able to see what the badge actually means.

Apply → audit → document → recheck

Start with your site plan and tree inventory. Build the record from there.

Integrity is the infrastructure.

No conflict of interest

Auditors cannot also serve as the project’s design or tree-care consultants. Fees go through the program.

A breach has consequences

Violations trigger remediation. Serious or repeated breaches can pause recognition or remove the badge.

Accountability stays public

Second-auditor spot checks and a published decertification list are part of the proposed framework.

Let’s build the first evidence trail

Their next fifty years.
